Kumbang Kotoran, Si Navigator Bintang



Jauh sebelum GPS dan radio ditemukan, pelaut mengandalkan bintang untuk membimbing mereka ke tujuan yang diinginkan. Dalam dunia hewan, burung dan anjing laut telah menunjukkan kemampuannya dalam navigasi langit. Dan sekarang, ada satu lagi makhluk hidup yang memiliki kemampuan navigasi yang baik, yakni kumbang kotoran. Dalam rangka untuk memberi makan dirinya sendiri dan keturunannya, kumbang kotoran jantan mencari tumpukan segar guano (pupuk dari tahi burung) yang kemudian akan digulung hingga membentuk bola.

Bola kotoran tersebut didorong cepat dengan kakinya agar mereka tidak berputar kembali ke tumpukan bola kotoran milik pesaing. Ahli neurotologis, Marie Dacke, terkejut ketika ia mengamati kumbang kotoran yang menemukan jalan pulang pada malam hati tanpa isyarat visual lainnya kecuali cahaya bintang Untuk menguji apakah kumbang kotoran tersebut menggunakan cahaya bintang atau tidak, Dacke dan rekan-rekannya melakukan eksperimen. Mereka menghapus semua isyarat visual yang mungkin menjadi navigasi kumbang kotoran, kecuali visual langit malam.

Setelah meninggalkan tumpukan kotoran dan mengirimkan kumbang kotoran keluar untuk mengais, tim dibuat tkajub oleh apa yang dilakukan kumbang kotoran. Kumbang kotoran mampu beradaptasi dengan baik dan mendorong bola makanannya menuju rumah tanpa pohon, tanaman, atau penujuk terestrial lainnya. Percobaan mengalami pengulangan, dan hasilnya kumbang kotoran pun tidak butuh cahaya bulan.

Dalam hal ini, para peneliti berpikir kumbang kotoran mampu melakukan navigasi dengan baik berkat fotoreseptor khusus di matanya. Meskipun mata kumbang kotoran terlalu lemah untuk membedakan konstelasi bintang individu, kumbang kotoran menggunakan gradien terang dan gelap yang tersedia di langit sebagai navigasi mereka untuk pulang ke rumah.

penampakan APARTEMEN khusus untuk KUCING


Sebuah perusahaan kontraktor Jepang mendesain apartemen yang memiliki berbagai fasilitas khusus dirancang untuk hewan kesayangan penyewa.

Beberapa fasilitas apartemen tersebut yaitu pintu khusus kucing di setiap ruangan, lantai anti baret karena cakaran, lorong kecil untuk tempat kucing bermain, serta papan kayu berupa rak kecil yang dapat digunakan kucing untuk menikmati pemandangan di luar apartemen.

Pada bagian kamar mandi, bahkan diletakkan tempat khusus untuk membuang kotoran kucing agar hewan kesayangan anda dapat dilatih untuk tidak buang air sembarangan.

Ruangan yang didesain oleh Asahi Kasei dibuat berdasarkan penelitian Asahi akan interaksi antara manusia dan kucing. Sangat penting untuk membuat berbagai fasilitas yang dapat dibuat bermain oleh hewan peliharaan agar tidak mengalami stress.

Kebanyakan hewan peliharaan yang berada di dalam rumah akan merasa terkurung jika tidak disediakan fasilitas bermain atau tidak mendapat cukup interaksi dan kasih sayang pemiliknya.

Werner Freund, Berteman dengan Serigala,.... EDAN !!!


 

Werner Freund, seorang peneliti serigala berbagi potongan daging dengan seekor serigala di kandang Wolfspark Werner Freund, Merzig, Jerman, Kamis (24/1). Pada 1972, Freund telah menyiapkan tempat khusus seluas 25 hektar bagi sekitar 29 serigala yang berasal dari Eropa, Siberia, Kanada dan wilayah Artic Mongolia. Freund harus berperilaku sebagai serigala alpha jantan, agar bisa mendapatkan rasa hormat serigala lainnya. Saat ini dia telah memiliki 70 lebih hewan selama 40 tahun terakhir.

Giant Snakehead, demikian orang Inggris menyebutnya. Salah satu ikan jenis ini akhirnya tertangkap oleh seorang pemancing di Lincolnshire, Inggris. Ikan ini juga dijuluki "gangster"-nya ikan. Karena ia memakan segala yang terlihat olehnya, bahkan dilaporkan pernah membunuh manusia.

Hebatnya lagi, snakehead bisa berjalan di daratan, khususnya di malam hari saat musim kemarau, mencari tempat yang masih berair. Bila keadaan sangat kering, ikan ini bisa dengan terpaksa mengubur dirinya dalam lumpur menunggu hingga tempat itu kembali berair. Snakehead memang memiliki kemampuan bernapas langsung berkat organ labirin.

Ikan ini pertama kali ditangkap oleh Andy Alder dari Lincoln. Tanpa sengaja ia menangkap ikan sepanjang 60 cm ini ketika ia sedang memancing di sungai Witham dekat Hykeham Utara, Inggris. (Snakehead bisa tumbuh maksimal sekitar 1 meter).

"Ikan itu memiliki mulut penuh dengan gigi setajam silet. Sejujurnya, saya takut setengah mati. Setelah ditemukan, ikan ini bukan saja membuat panik para pemancing saja namun juga para aktivis konservasi alam," ungkap Andy Alder.

Ben Weir, seorang wartawan dari majalah memancing berkata,"Selama hidupku bekerja di bidang pemancingan, aku belum pernah mendengar banyak suara kekuatiran seperti sekarang. Ikan ini nyata dan mereka tidak segan-segan menyerang manusia untuk melindungi anak-anak mereka. Para ahli telah meneliti foto-foto ikan ini dan mengkonfirmasi bahwa ikan ini adalah predator sejati.

Sekarang, ikan ini telah masuk dalam daftar hitam spesies yang dilarang untuk diimpor di Inggris. Walau tetap ada kekuatiran bahwa ikan ini dapat diselundupkan untuk hewan piaraan akuarium dan kemudian dilepaskan secara ilegal.

Snakehead tidak hanya membuat takut di Inggris, tetapi juga hingga Amerika. Di negerinya Obama, ikan ini mendapat julukan lebih seram, "Franken Fish". Memang, sebagai predator segala mahluk yang ada di air, cocok menyandang sebutan itu karena benar-benar seperti monster.

Di tahun 2002, perairan di Amerika Serikat dibuat panik dan kacau akibat kemunculan si ikan monster.  Sehingga para penembak jitu disiapkan di pinggir sungai untuk menembaki mereka. Pada waktu itu, air sungai dipenuhi oleh darah untuk memancing mereka keluar.

Cukup mengagetkan, ikan tersebut bukan asli Amerika atau Eropa, melainkan impor dari kawasan Asia Tenggara. Ya, ikan ini ternyata banyak di Indonesia dan kita menyebutnya: IKAN GABUS.

Aduh mister... kalau di sini, ikan ini ada yang dibuat jadi kerupuk, pempek, pepes tempoyak, atau menu "Gabus Pucung" - makanan khas etnis Betawi di Jakarta. Ternyata orang Indonesia lebih hebat, kan? Saat orang Amerika dan Inggris ketakutan dengan si monster, kita malah menjadikannya santapan.
